I'm really excited for tonight's game between the Green Bay Packers and the Minnesota Vikings. There are great stories to watch develop on both teams. Aaron Rodgers will be making his first NFL start tonight entering his fourth season in the league (all with the Packers), the first start by a quarterback other than Brett Favre in Green Bay since September of 1992. I think that he will be under a lot of pressure, especially early on in the year, trying to follow the hall of fame career of Favre who the Packers shipped off to the New York Jets before the start of the season. Rodgers has shown in the preseason that he has the decision making abilities and the arm strength to make it as an NFL quarterback, but I'm interested to see how he will lead the Packers this season. I can't think of a better way for Rodgers to establish himself and gain respect in the league than to play a great game tonight on Monday Night Football with the whole nation watching.
On the other side of the ball, the Vikings' running back Adrian Peterson will look to get off to a great start entering his second year in the league. Peterson was voted rookie of the year last year in the NFL rushing for 1,341 yards on 238 carries for an average of 5.6 yards per carry, along with 12 touchdowns in fourteen games. Peterson will look to top those numbers this season by staying healthy. Last year he suffered a knee injury against the Packers that held him back from putting up even bigger numbers had he been able to play all sixteen games.
I expect tonight's game to be close, and Rodgers or Peterson will play a large role in their team's win. Let's hope it's Rodgers! Go Packers!
